In “Nollywood’s Transformations and Academic Paradigms,” Jonathan Haynes sets down useful reflections on the changes that Nollywood has undergone in recent years and on the need for corresponding changes in scholarly approaches. Synthesized from a longer article that appeared in a recent issue of Africa Today (Vol. 64: 4, Summer 2018), the essay makes for an engaged, informed reading. There are many suggestive ideas in it, and there are many provocative ones as well, from where I sit. It invites debate, which is just as well. Production in the artistic and critical realms in Nollywood now proceed at a steady, sustained rate and it is important to keep pace with both.
